چکیده:

In recent years, some novel technologies and concepts have been developed and deployed to maintain the profitability of development of mature oil fields. Among them, the smart technology is a significant achievement in oil industry. Smart technology including intelligent wells and smart fields, enables operators to monitor and control the production of hydrocarbons through remotely operated completion systems. Recently, this technology has been applied in many assets as a solution to increase production, reduce intervention costs especially in offshore fields and increase recovery. Also this technology provides the ability of quick reaction to unexpected events during the life of the reservoir such as delaying early water or gas breakthrough. The introduction of intelligent well systems as an advanced completion technology is rapidly moving from the more obvious, high–cost offshore application environment to the more revenue-sensitive operating arenas, including mature and marginal fields. This paper presents a broad study of the literature of intelligent well and smart field technology. Different applications of this technology such as production optimization, optimal sequential production, production in oil rims, EOR processes such as water and gas dumping and automate gas lift have been described in this study. In addition, Advantages and challenges of this technology have been discussed.Finally, the future of this technology has been predicted by extracting and analyzing the information of three different scopes. Considering the patenting activity in this area, information from articles published related to this subject and also considering the future plan and R&D strategies of some major oil companies involving in this technology.
