This paper presents a microstrip fed multiband multiple ring monopole antenna. The design consists of a set of self-similar circular rings that are printed on a dielectric substrate and fed by a 50Ω microstrip line. The multiple ring monopole antenna with a perpendicular ground plane has a poor matching characteristics at the first band, it is shown that the first band matching can be improved significantly by microstrip feeding the antenna. The microstrip fed multiple ring antenna can be connected to printed circuit boards and used in low-profile applications. The antenna is simulated by the FDTD method, constructed and measured. The results show that the simulation and measurement are in good agreement.
