The increasing demand for dynamic response and high quality fashion design at shorter run lengths and printing in an environmentally friendly manner have inspired printers to reconsider the capabilities of conventional printing systems and to seek for new methods. Amongst the new technologies, textile printing by droplets has the potential to meet the current requirements for quick response, just-in-time delivery and shorter runs, facilitating frequent style and colour changes. This paper overviews the textile printing techniques using droplets. The advantages and limitations of existing systems are considered. It is concluded that modern textile printing systems will open its way gradually however, many more developments will be required to replace the established technology of screen printing and the new technology will probably still be confined to small production runs for many years
