This paper studies the basic design concepts of a transmission line type arrester that is called suspension arrester, and then will offer the methods of calculation of mechanical forces, electrical field, creepage distance and points related to production. The line arrester is used for the prevention of lightning faults on transmission lines.The suspension type arrester employing ZnO elements in an insulator shed which there is no series gap in order to reliable surge absobtion with no delay in discharge. In this paper the application and system study of transmission arresterat all, is not studied because this requires a seperate discussion. So only the basic design concepts needed to produce suspension arrester is mentioned.
