چکیده:

This paper presents unique calamity and collapse of power transformer control and protection system during multinational expatriate commissioning of 320 MW unit No.3 while starting a 6.0 KV A.C.motor of a Standby Exciter. It resulted in a brand new French design startup power transformer (2TR) explosions, 6kv bus-duct melting, protection and control panel fires, cable vault fires, 6.0 kv switch gear, control and protection d.c failures and a series of cascade destructions of electrical / mechanical / air – conditioning equipments-due to fire transmmission through the cable ducts leading to various places – boiler area, aux-boiler, water treatment, cooling tower, turbine areas 230kv switchyard, power
transformer area, fuel stations…. etc. The authors presents a brief review of the occurrence and presents a series of photographs which could be an excellent self explanatory solutions for the biased views of designers 1 client I suppliers and also to correct future designers or power utilities and emphasaises for a emergency backup AC trip protections on HV and LV sides of power transformers circuit breakers in addition to DC TRIP circuits and also special attention to fireprotection systems.
