Many countries around the world have already embarked on or arc planning to undertake deregulation of their power systems. With the deregulation of power systems power production optimization and planning tasks from the central control center are transferred to the producers’ level. By introduction of competition in the power industry, utilities’ profit became solely dependent on their market income, bringing forth a strong call for new tools of hydro power plants (IIPP ) operational planning. In the paper, structure, models and algorithms for short-term operational planning of run-of-the-river IIPP with daily water storage capability in open electricity market are presented. Usage of artificial intelligence techniques in developing new efficient models and algorithms for short-term operational planning is investigated. The developed new models and algorithms arc tested on the Soda river cascaded hydro system and main results are shown.
