In this paper, the double-winding synchronous machine is studied from the circuit point of view. The dqo transformation is applied on the machine’s general equations and the machine’s State Variable equations, as well as power and torque formulas, are developed. Equivalent circuits are proposed to represent the transient and the steady state behavior of the machine. A digital model, developed to simulate the machine in conjunction with EMTDC program, is introduced, and some of the results of the machine simulation are presented. The results are in good agreement with laboratory observations.
