One of the most important problems in offshore structures is to lift and shifting these structures. Wire ropes can be used for lifting these structures. In this paper static response of a strand to the bending and twisting loading , and frictional effects between the outer and central- outer wires are analyzed. Critical radius of outer wires for producing friction between wires of a strand is calculated. Internal forces produced by external loads for the outer and central wires are calculated separately. Then , a wire rope shich is made up of several strands, is analyzed . Variations of the curvature and twist of a wire rope caused by loading are calculated. Also bending and twisting stiffnesses are calculated.
