This research has focused on estimating anisotropic parameters in fractured rock systems, provided information from micro seismic data and predicting fracture characteristics from well logs. It is important to develop techniques that can be used to estimate the anisotropic parameters in predicting the performance of naturally fractured rock systems. This project introduces a micro scale method to relate the elastic compliances and rock physics in porous anisotropic reservoir rock systems. In addition, methods can be used for estimating localized discontinuities for reservoir characterization purposes.For this approach new algorithm is developed to characterize and study the performance of naturally fractured rocks that integrate geoscience and engineering data. A well log case study is used to illustrate the feasibility of the method for calculation of fracture densities and fracture compliances. This is an important step in developing exploration strategies for optimizing the oil recovery from reservoir rocks to be used in naturally fractured reservoir simulators.
