In energy industry, data collection and control systems which are named Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems have traditionally been labor ntensive. Moreover, they have large up front infrastructure which imposes capital costs and ongoing monthly expenses. Over the time, many offerings have been proposed in order to reduce the costs of these systems. Reducing overhead costs associated with manual energy information collection and control methods has been one of these cost reduction offerings. These energy conservation and cost reduction needs have communication requirements essential to successfully meet Dispatching Control Centre needs. Among wireless networks wireless mesh networks (WMNs) are the best selection. WMN is a collection of wireless local area network (WLAN) devices connected through
wireless links without preexisting infrastructure. The nodes have the ability of topology learning and self-configuring. In this article we first propose a wireless mesh network in energy industry and later on we concentrate on the state-of-the-art applicable routing protocols in this system which are the main concern in using these systems in practice.
