چکیده:

In most cold forming operations, formability is limited by ductile fracture. This study presents an FEM simulation of upsetting process to predict when and where material is likely to fracture. The concept of continuum damage mechanics has been retained to describe the progressive damage accumulation into the bulk metal leading to the final rupture and a fully coupled Lemaitre damage model was implemented through a subroutine (VUMAT) in Abaqus/Explicit. The simulation results have been compared to the corresponding results obtained from an experimental upsetting process. It is found that the numerical predictions are in good agreement with the experimental results.
