چکیده:

In this research, polycarbonate (PC) and S-polyvinylchloride (S-PVC) based heterogeneous cation exchange membranes were prepared by casting-solution techniques, and their morphological and electrochemical properties were studied. The results were compared with a commercial heterogeneous cation-exchange membrane (supplied by MANDRESSI Group Company). The microstructures of the membranes were probed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Ion exchange capacity (IEC) and water content were studied for this purpose. The mechanical strength test was used for investigation of mechanical properties of prepared membranes. Measurements indicate that water content and ion exchange capacity are enhanced by increasing resin ratio (Resin: binder) in the casting solution for both types of prepared membranes. Theresults show that the mechanical strength of based S-PVC membranes is higher than PC based membranes. The mechanical strength of both membranes was decreased with increment of resin loading ratio. The prepared heterogeneous cation exchange membranes exhibit a good IEC and suitable amount of water content in comparison with commercial type. Furthermore it was found that the swelling of the prepared membranes is negligible compared to commercial heterogeneous type.
