چکیده:

This paper attempts to asses the accuracy of 7 turbulence models of constant eddy viscosity, non-isotropic eddy viscosity, Keefer, k-e, Local-k-e, k-w-Wilcox, k-w-epsilon in the numerical simulation of lateral velocity distributions in straight compound channels by three-dimensional finite volume modelling. The relative and absolute performances of these 7 turbulence models are tested by making comparisons between their predictions, on the one side, and experimental velocity data, on the other side. Based on the results the velocity profile in compound channels is sensitive to the turbulence model, because of its inherent turbulence mechanisms and lateral mass and momentum transfer between main channel and floodplains. Comparison of results revealed that the standard k-e models have the best results.
