چکیده:

In this paper using higher order boundary element method, we study the first order hydrodynamic loads applied on a large cylinder in the sea due to combined wave and current. This cylinder is located on the sea bed and pierces free surface vertically. Assuming potential flow and using HOBEM, as an alternative method, a computer program is developed to solve first order diffraction equations in the time domain. Maximum 18% difference is observed between the results of the present work (HOBEM) and constant panel method for the hydrodynamic forces applied to the body. In HOBEM the surface of the body is discretized with curved elements, which approximate better the surface of the cylinder, so the present results can be more reliable.
