Contingency analysis is one of the major function of power system security assessement In the conventional method the amount of overloadin created by each conti .9 . ingency is recognized as the only measure for its severity In this paper the concept of correetability of overloading created by contingencies are proposed and used as a new index for evaluating the effect of contingencies in the process of security assessment For this purpose the technique of neural network is used for evaluating and incorporating the new index in the process the proposed method is tested on the IEEE 30-bus system
