The decomposition kinetics of 2, 2 azoisobutyronitrile (AIBN) as an initiator for polymerization systems was studied using thermal analysis techniques. The kinetic and thermodynamic parameters of the reaction were determined using TG/DTG and DSC data. Thermal analysis experiments were performed in both isothermal and dynamic modes. The model-free and model-fitting kinetic approaches have been applied to TG/DTG and DSC data for retrieval of kinetic parameters. The enthalpy of reaction, decomposition rate constant, kd; and Arrhenius parameters were obtained through an efficient optimization program from these models. The model-free isoconversional method yields dependencies of the activation energy on conversion. A computer program, which enables regression analysis, estimation and optimization of kinetic and thermodynamic parameters from thermoanalysis data, is presented. This program use from the Freeman-Caroll, Horowitz Metzger, Coats-Redfern, Liu et. al., Doyle and isoconversional methods. Also predictor corrector algorithm coupled with screen graphics were used to solve the differential equations representing kinetic models of thermoanalysis data.
