This paper describes the design procedure of a digital transmission line relay using segregated phase comparison technique. This technique could be used to detect various transmission line faults including phase-to-phase, three phase and phase-to-ground faults. This method is used for protection of conventional as well as series compensated transmission lines. The proposed design is suitable for implementation on microprocessor based digital relays. Performance of the method was evaluated using EMTDC simulated data and some results are included in the paper.
