Determination of rock mechanical properties to assess the stability of tunnels and design the support system is one of the most important steps in tunneling. By and large, without a sufficient knowledge of geo-mechanical and physical properties such as mechanical behavior of the material surrounded the underground or surface structure, it would not be possible to offer suitable administration, methods propose appropriate design, an predict risks with reasonable degree of accuracy. In this paper, the rock engineering properties including uniaxial compressive strength, module of elasticity, Poisson’s ratio, cohesion, friction angle for rock mass and discontinuities, etc. for Azmar tunnel which is a road tunnel were estimated using laboratory and field investigation. To calculate these parameters, first, rocks hosting the tunnel were divided to same formation in order to determine the engineering geological properties. After that, using rock mass classification systems such as RMR, Q, GSI and RSR, and common laboratory tests, aforementioned parameters were estimated and compared to each other. A comprehensive analysis was performed to match the result with geological investigation.
