The present paper describes the lift off-fall down and bouncing frequency of metallic wirelike particles in a one phase SF6 insulated system The results show that for alumi nium and copper wire-like particles that it is possible ft m the lift off and fall down voltages to identify a particle in GIS. Moreover, a companson of the bouncing frequencies obtained for the different particles can give additional information useful to identify the particles. In order to gain a better understanding of particles behaviour under AC voltage, computer simulation of the particles motion by using the motion equation has been done. A comparison between the measured and computed beuncing frequencies shows that in general the measured bouncing frequencies are higher than computed ones. But there is a good agreement between the measured and computed Jouncing frequencies for the voltages above the measured lift off voltages.
