This paper presents a method of reproducing inside a laboratory real dynamic conditions which can occur in an electrical system, using for that purpose a new equipment, the SDTR’1′, (Digital Simulator for Testing Relays) that has for an objective the testing and calibration of protective relays using the results of system simulations either by a mathematical approach(any computational simulation program) or reproducing recorded waveforms from a, digital fault recorder. The paper presents a practical example using the SDTR associated with the results of EMTP simulations (2) with the purpose of testing a current differential protection, type DF3i(3), installed at Morretes substation -Copel.
