Two halocarbon (HC) compounds including chlorocyclohexane (CHC) and chloroform (C) were tested as promoters for a Titanium-based Ziegler-Natta catalyst in the slurry phase ethylene polymerization. The promotion effect of the halocarbon was studied with a series of polymers prepared with different HC/Ti molar ratios in a same polymerization condition. Results showed that addition of proper amount of promoters to the catalytic system leads to a strong productivity improvement. The intensity of the promoting effect depends on the nature and amount of thepromoter. More than 85% increased activity was observed using chloro cyclohexane in the optimized molar ratio of 128 for HC/Ti system.
