چکیده:

This paper presents the effects of geometric parameters on the performance of noncircular lobed gas–lubricated bearings. The geometric parameters considered are: tilt angle, mount angle and preload. For the present work three types of bearings are taken up and their performance from power loss view-point are investigated. Finite element method is used to obtain the performance of the bearings. It is found that the effects of mount angle and preload are more significant in two lobe bearings in comparison to the three and four lobe bearings. The results also show that the power loss of the bearings can be controlled by properly selecting the geometric parameters.
