چکیده:

Objective: Clove extract is known as a reliable and inexpensive anaesthetic agent today. But the ranges that could be used in different species of fish is somehow unclear. The aim of this study was to determine the safe dosage of this extract on Grass Carp.
Method & Materials: Several ranges of concentrations between 20 to 200 mg/litr of clove extract were examined on grass carp and all the stages of anaesthesia and recovery were recorded for each concentration.
Results & Conclusion: General anaesthesia were established from the range of 40 mg/litr of the clove extract and remained for about 3 minutes. Recovery time was related to amount of the extract, used in same volume of water. Finally concentrations of about 40-50 mg/litr were found to be useful in a safe anaesthesia wich is desired to last about 5 minuts. These ranges were tested on grass carp and could vary in several species, so more trials should be held up to determine the exact need of this extract for any other species.
