Synchronous generators are multivariable systems and are well defined in a state space structure. Subspace state space (4SID) identification method is most suitable for identification of such systems. In this paper, the identification of a synchronous generator using this identification
method is presented. Since the synchronous generators are nonlinear, the parameters of the linear identified model would depend on the operating conditions. To follow such changes, a look-up-table model is developed. First the set of possible active (P) and reactive (Q) power in the
P-Q plane is divided into some subsection and a linear state space model is identified for the center of each subsection. Since the state space model of a system is not unique, the parameters of the state space realization is related to a set of independent parameters. These set of independent parameters are used in the look-up-table model. Spline interpolation is used to interpolate the parameters for the operating conditions other than the center of subsections.
