The objective of this study is to identify the key factors influencing the mode of international technology trnsfer and explain the rationles and motives of the recipient firms entering a particular choice with foreign firms . In continue it has tried to answer the question of whether or not the technology trnsfer mode selection factors which , Iranian recipient firms consider are match with those suggested by researches for successful technology transfer. The comparison of literature recommended and responded considered factors, revealed that only forty percent of recommended factors have been considered by iranian manufacturing firms in their selection of technology transfer mode . this differnce can be explained with the motives of recipients upon selecting particular entering mode . Results clearly show that licensing is considered as a conservative way of technology transfer, while join venture is considered as a way of improving relationship with multi national enterprises , and gaining marker assistance.
