A Static Synchronous Compensator (STATCOM) is a very important member of the FACTS devices family that have much widespread effects in basis of the exchange reactive power with the power system . In this paper , using of the integration of a superconducting magnetic energy storage (SMES) system into STATCOM , allows them to provide inject and /or absorb active power in addition to reactive power exchange simultaneously in order to transient stability improvement in power system that has been appraisal . In recent years , whereas the using complex FACTS and energy storage systems (ESS) in comparison with using complex various FACTS devices hasn’t been studied significantly , therefore in this paper try to expression structure and behavior both of STATCOM and SMES system , specifications and performance principles of the complex STATCOM/SMES compensator completely discussed and finally to setting complex compensator in a single machine infinite bus system (SMIB) and using a proper control strategy , results in order to usefulness this complex compensator and favorite operation for transient stability improvement into power system in compare with alone STATCOM by PSCAD/EMTDC software has been demonstrated.
