چکیده:

An experimental study was conducted evaluate the adhesion of bitumen and its emulsion to the mineral aggregates. In the first instance , adhesion of pure bitumen with two different penetration grades was determined. None of them showed the desired result. In order to increase this property , various kinds of adhesion promoters with different percentage were added to the bitumen. Adhesion promoters are surface active materials which concentrate at the interface between and the aggregate surface. They displace most of the weakly adsorbed components of the bitumen to from strong chemical bonds to the aggregate surface.
Furthermore, the adhesion between bitumen emulsion and the aggregates were evaluated which is improved by different types and amounts of polymers. These polymers were directly added to the bitumen and then emulsions were produced. Results showed a significantimprovement in adhesion by some kinds of polymers.
