چکیده:

An experimental investigation has been carried out in order to determine the influence of mass transfer direction on the operation of pulsed packed column. The ternary system that studied was water-acetone-toluene as recommended by the E.F.C.E. In this paper the influence of mass transfer direction on hold-up, drop size, interfacial area and overall mass transfer coefficient is investigated. It was observed that the dispersed phase hold-up in the c→d transfer is greater than that in the opposite direction and c→d transfer tends to produce smaller drops. Also, from a practical point of view, it was found that the overall mass transfer coefficient in the case of d→c mass transfer direction is higher than that in opposite direction, in spite of a lower interfacial area.
