The supply of electrical energy presents an important position in the life of any modem society. The operation of commerce and industry, transport, the health service and households are all dependent on undisturbed, regular and dependable supply of electrical energy. Theperation of the power system, one of the most complex processes, with the electric energy production, transmission, distribution and consumption must at all times fulfill the critical demands of quality,security and economic operation. Successful power system operation requires the use of quality and state of the art secondary equipment, which enables the protection, monitoring and control of individual devices. It allows also instantaneous detection ad isolation of faults. as well as the providing of an alternative supply to consumers affected by the fault occurred in the network. Progress within the field of communications and computer technology have permitted the development of complex systems which enable the full automation of the power system areas the systematic monitoring and control of production, transmission and distribution of electrical – energy. Today, through the interconnection of computer devices, total monitoring and controland the optimization of power system operation, as a whole is possible, like shown in Fig.
