چکیده:

One method to generate high voltage pulses is to use transmission lines to store energy and to form pulses. The conventional line typeodz~lator is one of the oldest and most common types of modulators in which the Guillmin line is used to generate pulses. In order to improve rise time and e8ciency of this modulator another kind of modulator will be evaluated, called Blumlein modulator. In Blumlein modulator, a transmission line is used to store energy and to form pulses as well as in the conventional line type modulator. To achieve this goal, both modulators are simulated with PSPICE sojhare to achieve 4 W, 100 KV output pulses with a 2.9 ps pulse width in 50% points of the pulse maximum voltage. Considering output pulse shape achieved by simulation, modulators are compared with each other in the case of rise time,
eflciency, circuit complexity and cost. At last, Blumlein modulator is combined with series pulse transformer topology and the obtained modulator is simulated and its advantages and disadvantages are evaluated.
