For our investigation into the water quality in Sarbisheh basin, Birjand, Iran, 15 water samples have been collected from water supply wells and analysed for the hydrogeochemical parameters including main cations (K+, Na+, Mg2+ and Ca2+), anions (Cl-, CO32-, HCO3-, and SO42-), electrical conductivity (EC), total hardness (TH), total dissolved solids (TDS) and pH. The stiff and piper diagrams were used to represent chemical analyses of the samples and Durov diagram as well. Electrical conductivity values range between 1850 and 11730μS cm−۱ . The groundwater of the study area can be classified into Na-Cl-SO4 type of water. The Average water quality index (AWQI) has been also calculated to further investigate the quality of groundwater samples. The results show the sample no.1, 2 were polluted. Since, the water of the existing wells is used as drinking water and agricultural activities, so such studies are useful in developing an appropriate water management strategy in study area.
