چکیده:

The deposition of pollution is an unavoidable phenomenon in all overhead transmission lines. The main environmental conditions affecting leakage current are pollution, humidity and rain. On a new insulator, which has a high surface resistivity, the leakage current is usually low and primarily capacitive. When pollution builds up on the surface and the insulator becomes wetted by high humidity or rain, theesistivity reduces and leakage current increases and becomes resistive. This resistive leakage current flows through the high voltage line to the ground and this heats up the wooden poles which can lead up to a possible fire. This study is aimed at understanding of the behavior of wooden poles under different environmental conditions by developing a new mathematical model for leakage current taking into consideration various environmental factor including the impedance of wooden poles. Other types of power poles were not considered in this paper.
