In this paper minimum loss operation of interior permanent magnet motor drives for electric vehicle applications is studied. Motor parameter variations caused by saturation and other factors are taken into account. Motor efficiency and loss at minimum loss operation with and without parameter variations are compared over a standard electric vehicle driving cycle. It is shown that a significant energy saving is possible in the ormer case.
