Motion estimation is a cnrcial step in video stabilization, and it needs to be canied out with precision and vithout error The procedure ,s, therefore, completely dffirent from that used in video compression ln this paper, ,rve present a method of estimating motion using modified block matching technique in which the possibility of enor is reduced by 50% In this method the spurious motion vectors ctre discriminated from the genuine ones using speci,fic error detection criteria. The method we propose here has two orttstandingfeatures: firstly, the motion vectors can be estimated accurately and without enor, and secondly, the blocks used in estimation are in close proximity to each other and are all selected from parts of the video image that are of equal medium depth. This is a crucial step in estimating the various parameters of camera movemenls in video stabilization.
