A method for the preparation of gold and platinum nanoparticles in organic media based on the formation of a direct covalent bond between the metal core and the stabilizing ligand was recently reported. The method avoids the well-known thiol chemistry and is based on the reduction of a diazonium group that leads to the formation of a very reactive radical that binds strongly to the metal core.
