چکیده:

Presence of a large structure in a marine environment, will change the flow pattern in its immediate neighborhood, resulting a new complex flow structure due to one or more of the following phenomena: The convergence of flow streamlines; the formation of vortices in the vicinity of structure; the generation of turbulence; the occurence of reflection and diffraction of waves; the occurrence of wave-breaking; etc.
Mrine or coastal structures can be diffrent in shape, size and alignments, One type may be a simple structure such as a bare pipeline, a pile, the trunk section of a vertical-wall breakwater, or offshore platform, or even a large port complex. Each kind of structures may affect the natural flow pattern in a diffrent manner, depending on its geometry. Some of the changes in the flow pattern may cause an increase in the local sediment transport capacity, leading to scour, which is a threat to the stability of the marine structure.
