Numerical simulation of forced convection heat transfer air flow in cross flow over a cam shape cylinder is performed. The angle of attack and length to diameter ratio are within 0<α<180° and 1<L/D<6.3, respectively. The Reynolds number within range based on equivalent circular cylinder is 2 10 5× <Reeq< 4 10 3× . The process was modeled on Fluent 6.
Results show that the mean heat transfer coefficient is maximum at α=۶۰° and 120°over the whole range of Reynolds number. The results also indicate that L/D=6.3 give the best value for hydraulic and heat performance. Comparison between the numerical results and experimental data are reasonable good.
