چکیده:

The design and operating features of a fully automated hydrometric station are described is some detail. The objective were to develop and use the state of art technology to automatically measure water surface elevation as part of a fully automated hydrometric station. In this paper, after reviewing various water level sensing instruments , laser sensor is selected and used to continuously monitor water level in two gaging stations in shiraz drainage basin, Iran. For this purpose , water stage was channeled to a local collection building via a stilling well where water surface elevation was measured by laser sensor and recorded by data-logger . real- time data arerecorded at 15 minute interval , stored on site, and then transmitted to GIS Lab, School of Engineering , Shiraz Iran every 2 hours via telephone line for possible retrieval via the Internet . System design is described in some details and usefulness of such invaluable data in the context of flood earning system is highlighated.
