It is still often assumed that with constant drying conditions, a corstant drying rate only occures when the surface of the drying medium is completely wetted. For porous media, this is, in general, not true. Wood drying can be understood as the balance between heat transfer modes such as convection, infrared and microwave. for this purpose the laboratory dryer was designed in such a way that drying could be done with either microwave energy, infrared energy or by convection. The experimental chamber is designed to place the sample in one-dimensional conditins with regard to heat and mass transfer. Experiments corrducted in this study can evaluate the impact of each type of heat transfer mode on drying characteristics of wood.
