The monitoring of the vibrations level on a turbogenerator is standard practice and it is considered by many reference codes (e.g. VDI/1/); the use of vibrations level as an early indication of possible failures is also an established tecnique (e.g. ref 2,3/). In particular it is the change ofibrations level as well as the behaviour during rundown the main parameters. Criteria based on the change of slope of the vibrations level with time have been suggested /2/ and also the authors have been using it. It is the aim of this paper to present and discuss a slightly wore sophisticated tecnique based on the use of FFT on line and to describe the application of this tecnique in one special case.
