چکیده:

Jigs and fixtures are essential to ensure proper fixation and positioning of cutting tools with respect to work piece. This helps in manufacturing of identical parts at required accuracy and production speed. We have used CAE software for parametric modeling of jigs and fixtures for drilling cylindrical parts, with mounting surfaces perpendicular to the cutting tool axis. We have also used built-in FEM tools to study the forces due to the cutting tool and the clamp on the work piece. This makes it possible to evaluate the stability condition of the work piece during the drilling process. The plastic deformation of the work piece must be prevented, and the elastic deformation should not cause separation of the work piece from the positioner. We have obtained results which show the high potential of the software in such design and modelling practices. The applied loads have been obtained accurately and quickly through a static analysis of the work piece secured in the jig and fixture, which helps prevent the extra cost incurred due to improper design.
