چکیده:

Activated carbons have been prepared through chemical activation of walnut shell precursor using ZnCl2 as chemical agent. The effect of different parameters such as particle size, method of mixing, chemical/ walnut shell ratio (R), activation time and activation temperature on iodine number, weight loss and BET surface area of the produced activated carbons will be discussed in this section. It was found the chemical/
nutshell ratio and the method of mixing were the most important parameters in chemical activation of walnut shell with ZnCl2. Under the experimental conditions investigated, optimum conditions for production of high surface area carbons by chemical activation with ZnCl2 were identified.
