Probabilistic seismic hazard maps for the territory of Iran were compiled. The parametric-historic procedure was applied to map horizontal peak ground acceleration (PGA), peak ground velocity (PGV) and peak ground displacement (PGD). The procedure does not require any definition of seismic sources and/or seismic zones, accepts as input data either historical or instrumental earthquake catalogues, or a combination of both, and takes magnitude errors into account. In addition, uncertainties of earthquake locations were considered. Recent attenuation relationships were employed to describe ground motion attenuation as a function of earthquake magnitude and distance. The new maps specify a 10%probability of exceedance of the given PGA, PGV and PGD values for an exposure time of 50 years, corresponding to a return period of 475 years.
