Highly available long-life software systems are mission or safety critical, and assured dynamic reconfiguration is one the main issues for them. In this paper, we investigate the validity of dynamic reconfiguration for component-based programs and propose two validity conditions for it. We show that problem of runtime validity assurance is generally undecidable and there is no general-purpose algorithm to verify dynamic reconfiguration validity. To have a validity check algorithm we present some sufficient conditions to guarantee the validity of a dynamic reconfiguration
