A new method is introduced for study of cross shore sediment transport in the swash zone and beach profile change in the near shore region.The method, which is built on the eventbased concept, is more realistic than traditional quasi-steady models for flow regime experienced in the swash zone. A numerical model is developed on the basis of the new concept and the results of the model are compared with a number of experiments. The results are promising, encouraging further studies using this approach for a wider range of flow conditions and different sizes of sediments.
