Ship motion study is an important step in design cycle of a ship and considerable researches are related to this subject. It is customary to consider sea state with wave spectrum model and find ship motion spectrums. Then different motion criteria are considered to investigate ship performance in waves. This method is applicable for new designs as well as for available ships and floating structures. In this paper, different methods are explained and typical results for a container ship are presented. Slamming is used as main criteria and its occurrence conditions are reviewed. The general method, presented here, is also applicable for other seakeeping criteria and all types of floating bodies.
