Sustainable Urban Development in Iran and developing countries is a defining feature of the 21th century. In Fact about 90% of global urban growth now takes place in developing countries, and, between 2000 and 2030, the entire built-up urban area in developing countries is projected to triple. Urban Development has enabled economic growth and innovation across all regions, currently accounting for 3-quarters of global economic production. At the same time, urbanization has also contributed to environmental and socioeconomic challenges, including climate change, pollution, congestion, and the rapid growth of slums. Global Urbanization and expansion poses a fundamental challenge and opportunity for Future cities, nations, and the international development community. It sets forth before us a once-in-a life time opportunity to plan, develop, build, and manage cities that are simultaneously more ecologically and economically sustainable. This Research paper provides an Overview to Modern Urban Development planning practices to be further developed in the light of both the emergence of the Knowledge or Smart society and in particular the impact of information and communications technology (ICT), on spatial change. The ways in which urban and regional planning practices may best be altered in this regard is also addressed .
