There are inherent problems faced in the construction process of conventional cooling towers. These problems usually effect both the stracture and functionality of these tower.In this paper we set out to describe the results of our studies and research in finding alternative more efficient
methods and materials for this process.The basic design of the new process is based on manufacture of pre fabricated modular elements in a special composite material such as re -inforced unsaturated polyesther resins. These modules would then be constructed upon a concrete foudation directly at the site.The tower would have a double-wall structure in which the two separate shells are connected by strips of the same composite material, placed radially between the two shells.In effect this will produce a number of concentric ducts running the length of the tower. Apart from resulting in dramatic saying in raw material and weight , these duct act as colectors for directing the outside wind from the upper part of atmospher towards the base of the tower. At this position the air is directed into the main cavity of the tower through specialpenings. This air combined with the normal air circulation, as in the convential towers,will produce a much greater cooling effect.Finally we can conclude that the benefits of such a new approch are manyfold. It will give us a more ecconomical as well as a lighter, more rigid and stable structure. It will also shorten the construction process considerably.
