Objective: The goal of this study was to isolate the fungal flora from gill and skin of rainbow trout fish in Mazandaran Province fish farms.
Method & Materials: The samples were obtained from gill and skin of fishes with sterile swap and transferred to the laboratory with ice condition. Then the samples were inoculated to culture media (Sabouraud dextrose agar, potato dextrose agar and corn meal agar with antibiotics) and incubated at room temperature. Then pure culture and slide culture were performed.
Results & Conclusion: The isolated fungal organisms were Penicillium spp., Rhizhopous spp., Mucor spp., Cladosporium spp., Alternaria spp., Aspergillus spp., Saccharomyces spp., Rhodotorula spp., and unknown yeasts species. The most frequency isolated fungi was Penicillium spp. (31.74%), whereas Rizhopus spp. (2.99%) was shown the lowest frequency. The Penicillium spp. and the Mucor spp. were the most frequency isolated fungi from skin and gill of fishes, respectively. Whereas the lowest frequency isolated fungi was Rhizhopous spp. from gill and skin. There was no significant correlation between the level of contamination of skin and gill among fishes (P< 0.05).
