چکیده:

Biological membranes have attracted lively interest in recent years as the advances in genome mapping revealed that approximately one-third of all genes in an organism encode for membrane proteins. These proteins are key factors in the cell’s metabolism and thus, are a preferred target for pharmaceuticals. One promising and new approach with use of nanobiotechnological development includes the stabilization of lipid membranes with S-layer lattices of bacteria [1]. S-layer proteins crystallization on liposomes resulted in a general stabilization of the whole composite structures. The high mechanical and thermal stability of coated liposomes with S-layer proteins and the possibility for immobilizing or entrapping biologically active molecules reveal a broad application potential, particularly for medicinal applications as mucosal vaccines, drug targeting system or in gene therapy
